Healthy, resilient skin rarely depends on one treatment alone.
Skin ageing, pigmentation, redness, loss of firmness, uneven texture and reduced luminosity develop for different reasons and at different levels within the skin. This is why, at EOS Aesthetics, we increasingly take a multimodality approach to skin health, sometimes described as treatment stacking.
Rather than repeatedly relying on a single treatment or device, treatment stacking combines carefully selected technologies, professional skin treatments and homecare to address different aspects of skin health. Importantly, this does not mean doing everything at once. The treatments need to be appropriate for the individual, clinically indicated and carefully sequenced.
What is treatment stacking?
Treatment stacking involves combining treatments that work through different but complementary mechanisms.
For example, one treatment may improve pigmentation, another may stimulate collagen and support skin firmness, while another targets vascular redness or supports recovery and cellular activity.
When planned appropriately, the aim is not simply to achieve a more noticeable cosmetic result. It is to create a more comprehensive strategy for long-term skin health, function and ageing well.
At EOS Aesthetics, this begins with consultation and skin assessment. We consider the visible concern, but also what may be contributing to it beneath the surface.
Chemical peels + LED: supporting skin renewal
One example of a multimodality approach is combining a programme of professional chemical peels with LED photobiomodulation.
A course of Definisse Rinnova chemical peels, typically undertaken as a programme of 3–4 treatments approximately 20 days apart when clinically appropriate, can be used to support skin renewal and improve concerns such as uneven tone, texture, pigmentation and dullness.
We can then incorporate professional LED treatments alongside the peel programme, with appropriate home LED use providing additional continuity between clinic appointments.
At EOS, this may include Chroma Skin Tech LED, allowing light-based therapy to become part of an ongoing skin-health programme rather than an occasional standalone treatment.
The result is a layered approach: professional skin resurfacing and renewal combined with regular light therapy to support the wider skin-health journey.
Morpheus8, Lumecca Peak + Forma: treating more than one aspect of ageing skin
Ageing skin is a perfect example of why a single modality may not address everything we see.
A patient may simultaneously have pigmentation, visible redness, reduced collagen, textural changes and increasing skin laxity.
For appropriate patients, we may therefore develop a programme incorporating InMode Morpheus8, Lumecca Peak and Forma.
Each has a different role.
Morpheus8 combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy to stimulate remodelling within the deeper layers of the skin, supporting improvements in skin quality, texture and firmness.
Lumecca Peak uses intense pulsed light (IPL) to address concerns including pigmentation, sun damage and vascular redness, helping to create a clearer and more even complexion.
Forma uses radiofrequency to gently heat the tissues, supporting collagen and elastin and making it a useful option within an ongoing programme for skin quality and firmness.
Rather than asking one device to achieve everything, we can use different technologies for the aspects of skin ageing they are designed to address.
Lumecca Peak + Vasculaze: a combined approach to redness and visible vessels
Redness is another area where a multimodality approach can be particularly valuable.
Diffuse redness and discrete visible vessels are not necessarily the same problem and may respond better to different technologies.
Lumecca Peak can be used to address more generalised vascular redness and uneven pigmentation, while Vasculaze allows us to target individual visible vessels more precisely.
For selected patients, combining the two within an appropriately planned treatment programme allows us to address both the wider background redness and specific vascular concerns rather than treating the skin as though they are one and the same.
Why sequencing matters
Treatment stacking should never mean simply adding more treatments.
Good multimodality treatment planning considers:
- what we are trying to achieve;
- which technology is most appropriate for each concern;
- the order in which treatments should be undertaken;
- the appropriate interval between procedures;
- how the skin will recover;
- home skincare and sun protection; and
- how we maintain the result over time.
In some circumstances, treatments can be safely combined within the same appointment. In others, better outcomes may come from staging them over several weeks or months.
This is why consultation and an individualised treatment plan are so important.
Moving away from the ‘one treatment’ approach
Aesthetic medicine is increasingly moving away from simply asking, “Which treatment should I have?”
A more useful question is:
“What does my skin need, and how can we address those needs safely over time?”
For some people, the answer may be surprisingly simple. For others, particularly where there are several concerns such as pigmentation, redness, texture and skin laxity, a multimodality programme may provide a more considered approach.
At EOS Aesthetics, our philosophy is not about doing more treatment for the sake of it. It is about using the right treatment, for the right indication, at the right time.
That may include professional skincare, chemical peels, LED photobiomodulation, IPL, vascular treatments, microneedling radiofrequency and radiofrequency skin treatments – combined with evidence-informed homecare and ongoing review.
The goal is not simply younger-looking skin.
It is healthier, stronger and more resilient skin that is supported through every stage of ageing.
